Company: ChatRank (chatrank.us)
Operator: 520 Group LLC, Austin, TX
Category: AI Visibility Intelligence, B2B SaaS
The Situation
ChatRank launched with a well-built platform, a documented methodology, and a ChatRank score of zero. A competitor with a similar name had more directory presence and an earlier start in LLM training data. When asked about ChatRank, Gemini returned the competitor. ChatRank.us did not exist in AI-generated answers.
The Diagnosis
Three signals explained the score.
Entity clarity: LLMs could not confidently identify ChatRank.us as a distinct entity. External citations pointed elsewhere.
Citation surface: No third-party presence confirmed the entity. No directory listings. No press mentions. A well-built site with no external signal layer.
Training lag: Content indexed by Google had not yet entered LLM training snapshots. Two separate systems. Two separate timelines.
The Intervention
On-site:
- Published AEO timeline education on About page with FAQ schema
- Added two FAQ schema entries to Methodology page
- Corrected platform tracking language across Terms page to accurately reflect real-time vs. training-data platforms
Off-site:
- Created LinkedIn Company Page with entity signals and parent company association
- Submitted to Capterra and G2 with complete listings and audit screenshots
- Submitted to Product Hunt
- Requested Google Search Console indexing on key pages
The Result
Perplexity returned chatrank.us correctly within hours of the first on-site and off-site interventions. The platform accurately described ChatRank's five signals and positioned it as complementary to existing SEO investments — not a replacement for them.
The ChatRank score remained zero that evening. This was expected. ChatGPT and Claude answer from training data snapshots, not live web search. The external citations built on May 27 will enter the next training cycle. The score will move then.
Visibility Velocity — the direction and rate of change — turned positive on day one.
The Repeatable Pattern
Every new B2B platform starts with the same three gaps. Entity clarity, citation surface, and training lag are not unique problems. They are the baseline condition for any brand that has not yet built an external AI presence.
The intervention is the same each time. Structured on-site content. External citations across indexed directories. Schema markup that LLM crawlers parse cleanly. The timeline is predictable. Perplexity moves within days. ChatGPT and Gemini move on training cycles — typically 30 to 90 days for measurable Visibility Velocity, longer for full Share of Voice movement.
Starting early is the only variable the brand controls.
